UVa Budget Plan Increases Funds For Research, Aid

The University of Virginia Board of Visitors fast-tracked a $3 billion budget proposed by the administration.

Last year’s budget also was around $3 billion, but a lot has changed.

This year’s proposed budget, approved by the Finance Committee on Thursday, includes a $64 million — or 22 percent — increase in research funding and an additional $12 million — 11 percent — for financial aid.

A one-time investment of $13.5 million would be put aside for faculty hiring, including startup research funding for new hires.
