A 1-year-old, locally based blood-drawing firm is moving full-steam ahead with some extra cash in its pocket.
Iggbo, a company that contracts with independent phlebotomists to streamline the blood-drawing process, capped off a $13 million round of financing round last week.
Launched in June 2015 and based in western Henrico County, Iggbo is an on-demand company that, like Uber, contracts with independent contractors — phlebotomists, or blood-draw specialists, in this case — to connect them to doctors who need their services.
The Iggbo application for smartphones allows physicians to outsource their services so patients can travel to more convenient locations to have their blood drawn. Iggbo then sends the patient a series of reminders to ensure they attend the appointment.
