Richmond-area brewing companies, such as Hardywood, Strangeways and Center of the Universe, among others, have had their names front and center in the recent local craft beer explosion. Their products are available at grocery stores, restaurants and festivals throughout the area.
There is another craft beer movement going on here, too, where the word “small” is embraced. These breweries’ only beverage sales are made to customers who visit on-site taprooms and purchase beverages either by the glass, flight or growler fill.
Three of these nanobreweries currently operate in the Richmond area: Garden Grove Brewing Co. in Carytown, Final Gravity Brewing Co. in Lakeside and Castleburg Brewing Co. just east of Scott’s Addition. They intentionally stay very small and usually don’t brew more than one batch of beer at a time.
