Shipyard Subsidiary Partners With Westinghouse

A subsidiary of Newport News Shipbuilding that announced a major expansion last week has another reason to celebrate.

Newport News Industrial Corp., which supplies the commercial nuclear industry, has agreed to become part of the global supply network for Westinghouse, which is aiming to build dozens of nuclear power plants around the globe.

Officials at neither company would publicly speculate on what this means for the shipyard subsidiary, which last week announced a workforce expansion of more than 20 percent, adding at least 125 skilled trade jobs at its Oakland Industrial Park facility.
