Genworth Cuts 42 Jobs In Virginia, But Hires 72 More Employees

Henrico County-based Genworth Financial Inc. cut more jobs from its Virginia operations in June, though the company said it also added some staff at a customer service center in Lynchburg.

A spokeswoman for the insurance giant confirmed Thursday that the company laid off 42 employees last month, including 27 in the Richmond area and four at the company’s operations in Lynchburg. The rest were employees who had been working remotely.

Since then, however, the company has hired 72 new employees in its customer service center in Lynchburg, spokeswoman Julie Westermann said. Those employees started working in late June and early July.
