Former BVU Attorney Walt Bressler Sentenced To 6 Months In Prison

Calling it a “tragic” case, U.S. District Judge James P. Jones Monday ordered BVU Authority’s former attorney to spend six months in prison and then six months of home confinement.

G. Walter Bressler, 74, of Bristol, Virginia, previously pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit federal program fraud and keeping information about criminal wrongdoing from authorities. He served as the general counsel of BVU from 2008 until his retirement in 2015 and is one of nine former BVU officials, board members or contractors convicted in a sweeping federal corruption probe.

In addition to incarceration, Bressler has already paid $10,000 in forfeiture to the government.

In court for his sentencing, Bressler took responsibility.
