Two 20-year-old Blacksburg web design businesses announced a merger Wednesday as Automation Creations acquired Interactive Design and Development.
IDD’s employees are now working at the ACI office inside the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center, though ACI President Henry Bass said customers won’t see any major product changes for now.
There were no layoffs, both brands are staying alive, and web and app design prices haven’t changed, Bass said.
He said he remembers working in a “tiny little closet” on the upper floor of an office building near the Blacksburg airport when he first started his business in 1996. IDD was 5 years old at that point and had a fancy, glass-enclosed space downstairs where its employees were working on a big project for Dole pineapples.
