Areva North America has laid off 12 people in Lynchburg, part of a nationwide reduction of 50 employees. According to the company, the changes are a result of a shrinking demand for Areva’s support for existing nuclear reactors.
All of the employees affected worked in the “Installed Base” department, which works on existing nuclear reactors, either in operations or administrative capacities.
“As our customers adapt and shift their needs, we need to adapt and shift with them,” Curtis Roberts, Areva spokesman, said Monday.
