The Hampton Roads economy is growing, but at a turtle's pace relative to other regions.
The area may finally recover all the jobs it lost in the Great Recession by next year, but Hampton Roads has been losing workers to other places, said Robert McNab, the deputy director for Old Dominion University's Center for Economic Analysis and Policy. ODU released its annual State of the Region report Tuesday in downtown Norfolk.
"It's good to see the region is growing in 2015," McNab said in an interview. "We, however, are still forecasting relatively slow growth for 2016 due to the impact of sequestration, the growing economic headwinds for the Port of Virginia and the relatively mild recovery of hotels and tourism."
