3TS Capital Partners, one of the leading European technology growth capital investors, today announced that it has expanded its operations into the US with the opening of a new office in Washington D.C. In conjunction, the firm appointed Sever Totia as Partner to head US operations.
Sever will play a critical role in the execution of the firm’s overall growth plans, with primary responsibility for leading US activities, new investments and participating in the development of the existing portfolio. Sever is joining the boards of 3TS-backed companies Piano Inc. and Take the Interview Inc. He will also work with Catalyst Romania, a fund initially sponsored by 3TS Capital Partners, focusing on early stage investments in high growth tech companies in Romania.
“Our thesis has always been to help European tech companies with expansion into the US. There are hundreds of great tech start-ups in Europe and many of them, in their growth stage, need a partner who can support them across the Atlantic. In parallel, 3TS delivers significant on-the-ground expertise for US companies expanding European operations. We are excited to open our US office and delighted that Sever is joining us to help take 3TS to the next level. His investment and operating experience, plus unique familiarity with both US and European markets will be a tremendous asset,” stated Pekka Maki, Managing Partner of 3TS Capital Partners.
Sever added, “I am thrilled to be joining the world-class 3TS team at this exciting stage in the firm’s development. 3TS has helped bring many successful European tech companies to US, including LogMeIn, Avangate and Solvedirect. Their value-add, hands on approach and operational model continues to provide immense support. I look forward to applying my experience to accelerate the firm’s current momentum and their portfolio companies’ success.”
Sever brings over 15 years of investment experience, most recently as Partner with Edison Partners, a leading growth equity firm that invests in east coast based software and technology-enabled companies. At Edison, Sever focused on investments in enterprise software companies, having led fifteen financings and served on the board of eight Edison investments including Presidium (acquired by Blackboard), Notable Solutions (acquired by Nuance), Salsa Labs and VoxMobile.
Prior to joining Edison, Sever was with Lazard Technology Partners (LTP), a $400M venture fund. There he co-led ten software investments, including companies such as Vocus, Managed Objects (acquired by Novell), Intellitactics (acquired by Trustwave), Cyveillance (acquired by QNetiq), BoxTone (acquired by Good Technologies) and Interwise (acquired by AT&T). Before joining Lazard in 2000, Sever held operating leadership roles at Primark, an equity research software company based in the D.C. area, which expanded to over $500M before being acquired by Thomson Financial. Originally from Romania, Sever received his B.S. in Finance from Virginia Tech and is a CFA Charter holder. Sever also serves on the Board of Mid Atlantic Venture Association.
