State Regulators: Issues With Peninsula Gas Line

State regulators are pushing for $11 million in fines against Virginia Natural Gas, saying inspectors found a litany of issues with company pipelines along the Peninsula and on the Southside.

The 55 alleged violations of federal regulations vary in seriousness. They're spread out along lines that run through James City County, Newport News and Hampton, and on the South Side through Chesapeake, Suffolk and Norfolk.

There seems to have been only one leak, which occurred two years ago in Suffolk and released natural gas for six hours, inspectors said.
