Two Nelson County orchards are among 20 companies across the commonwealth that will receive value-added grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Silver Creek Orchards in Tyro and Seamans’ Orchard in Roseland each will receive $250,000. The grants will be used “to assist with advertising and operational costs to transition into local sales” at Silver Creek and “to increase the marketing and sales of locally produced apples” at Seamans’, according to a news release from The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
Grants ranged from $49,999 to $250,000.
