Downtown Roanoke residents, workers and anyone else with thoughts and ideas are invited to share them at a public meeting Tuesday evening regarding an update of Roanoke’s vision for the city center.
The meeting at 6 p.m. in Charter Hall on the third floor of the City Market Building is the second in a series to collect input on the plan for downtown over the next 20 years. The plan seeks to address the rise of downtown living, public spaces and amenities, small businesses, major employers and other aspects of making downtown a regional destination, a city news release said.
Roanoke’s Department of Planning, Building and Development is in the process of revising the city’s downtown plan, something that hasn’t been done since 2002. The city previously gathered input and conducted surveys in 2014 and 2015.
Senior Planner Wayne Leftwich said the information collected in Tuesday’s meeting, plus a previous one in October, will be used to formulate a draft plan to be presented at another public meeting in the spring. After that, the plan will go to the city Planning Commission and then the Roanoke City Council for approval.
