After the Maryland men's basketball team's 79-56 victory against Howard Dec. 7, Terps head coach Mark Turgeon quipped that 14 out of Maryland's first 19 shots against the Bison's 2-3 zone defense were from 3-point range. As Turgeon told it, settling for jump shots wasn't necessarily the game plan coming into the game.

"We watched a lot of film, and one of our keys was to play inside-out, and our guys weren't doing it," Turgeon said. "I've got to yell every halftime, it feels like. 'OK, Coach [Cliff] Warren watched every game, and this is the key to the game, so why aren't we doing this, guys?'"

In fact, Howard forward Solomon Mangham hit a 3-point jumper to put the Bison ahead, 22-19, with 6:56 remaining in the first half. To that point, Maryland had taken 14 shots from 3-point range and had only knocked down four. The Terps were moving the ball well and finding open looks over Howard's zone, but the shots weren't falling, and they were ignoring mismatches in the paint.
