The women's basketball programs at the University of Connecticut and the University of Maryland are synonymous with college basketball excellence. The Huskies have won a record 11 NCAA championships, including the last four titles. The Terps, who earned the 2005-06 national title, have made 12 NCAA tournament appearances during the last 13 seasons and reached the Final Four in 2013-14 and 2014-15.
The two titans will face each other for the fifth consecutive season Dec. 29, when top-ranked Connecticut travels to College Park, Md., for a 6 p.m. nonconference contest against Maryland. The game is sold out, representing the first time the Terps will play before a capacity crowd at Xfinity Center since the 2006-07 season.
The matchup will also feature two of college basketball's most accurate shooting squads. Maryland's .515 field-goal percentage leads the nation, while Connecticut ranks sixth at .490.
