Checking in at No. 7 on Baseball America's annual list of the top 10 Washington Nationals prospects is shortstop Luis Garcia. Here are five things to know about the 16-year-old Dominican Republic native.
1. Garcia Became A Millionaire With The Nationals In 2016
Last July, the Nationals signed the Dominican shortstop for $1.3 million. Garcia was joined by fellow 16-year-old Dominican shortstop Yasel Antuna, who signed a deal worth $3.9 million, as the two headlined a five-player international signing class for Washington. Nationals vice president of international operations Johnny DiPuglia expressed his pleasure toward the signings and said, "We're happy with the group … middle-of-the-field players with upside, plus running tools." But DiPuglia also said, since a lot of the signed players, including Garcia, were just 16, it would take time before they would be major league ready.
