Relay Foods will be returning $50,000 in grant money to both the city of Charlottesville and the state after failing to meet performance agreements for the grants.
Gov. Terry McAuliffe approved the $50,000 grant from the Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development Fund to assist the city with the project, which was contingent on the same agreements with the city.
In June, Charlottesville-based Relay Foods announced that it entered into a definitive merger agreement with Door to Door Organics, a Colorado-based online grocer. Earlier this month, Relay announced that it will begin operating under the singular Door to Door Organics brand and its two warehouses in Charlottesville and Richmond would be closed.
