Ciena Corp.’s chief executive officer saw a 16.7 percent decrease in total compensation in the company’s 2016 fiscal year, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Gary B. Smith’s total compensation for the fiscal year totaled $6,204,614, down from $7,448,623 in 2015.
Smith’s base salary for fiscal year 2016 was $900,000, up 12.5 percent from his fiscal year 2015 base salary of $800,000.
Smith had not received an increase in base salary since fiscal 2014.
According to the filing, 68 percent of Smith’s total target compensation was in the form of equity awards, linking his compensation directly to the value of common stock.
Additionally, approximately 60 percent of Smith’s total target compensation, including cash incentive bonus and awards, was “at-risk” based on the company’s performance against measurable objectives.
Ciena is a global supplier of telecommunications networking equipment, software and services.
Ciena trades on the NYSE under the ticker CIEN. The company is currently trading at $24.10 a share, up 4 cents, or 0.17 percent midday Wednesday.
