Rackspace Cuts 6 Percent Of U.S. Workers; Some In Blacksburg Report Being Affected

Rackspace has laid off 6 percent of its U.S. workers, company CEO Taylor Rhodes announced in a Tuesday blog post.

A company spokeswoman declined to disclose how many Blacksburg employees were affected, but at least one former local worker took to Facebook to report that he and his team had been cut.

The Texas-based cloud-computing company previously employed nearly 100 people at its office in the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center, making it one of the region’s most recognizable technology industry employers.

“There will not be a second wave of layoffs,” company spokeswoman Monica Jacob wrote in an email Wednesday. “Rackspace made a substantial cut in the early part of the year so we can continue to focus on our mission moving forward.”
