After one of their better halves in recent weeks, the Maryland men’s basketball team headed to the locker room at halftime with a 45-31 lead against Ohio State at Xfinity Center Jan. 11. The Buckeyes, however, steadily cut into the Terps’ lead with a 46-point second half and made a charge late.

With the memory still fresh of how Maryland let a double-digit second half lead slip away against Purdue Feb. 4, the Terps needed some big buckets late to stave off Ohio State -- and freshmen Anthony Cowan and Kevin Huerter delivered them during an 86-77 victory over the Buckeyes.

With 2:47 left to play, Ohio State’s Marc Loving – who had 24 points and played all 40 minutes – hit a 3-pointer to bring the Buckeyes within five points of the Terps. On Maryland’s next possession after Loving’s three, Huerter received a pass from Cowan with the shot clock winding down and hit a deep 3-pointer to push Maryland’s lead back out to 80-72.
