Sports events such as a NASCAR, Sports Backers races and collegiate lacrosse and high school soccer tournaments bring thousands of visitors to the Richmond region every year.
Those events not only pump dollars into the local economy but also create a buzz factor that elevates Richmond’s reputation as a place to visit, speakers said Friday at a Retail Merchants forum on sports tourism.
“Richmond has an all-of-the-above strategy” when it comes to sports tourism, said Jon Lugbill, executive director of Sport Backers. He was one of the four panelists speaking at the forum.
