How do you let people in and outside of the Martinsville community know about the classes being held at the New College Institute? That was the question considered Monday at a meeting of NCI’s Educational Outreach Committee.
The group met in Chatham to talk about the challenges the group faces, as well as future opportunities.
“When we established NCI, it was really important that outreach was a critical component to doing what we do because of the historical lack of access to higher education,” said Dr. Leanna Blevins, NCI’s executive director. “Our community thrived on jobs that did not require higher ed.”
In order to promote education in the area, NCI welcomed Sammy Redd to the staff in 2006 as coordinator of student services.
