Following multiple meetings and discussions, the Nelson County Board of Supervisors voted Wednesday to approve a trio of special use permits tied to expansion at Devils Backbone, a brewery in Nelson County.
The permits allow for the construction of an event hall for up to 250 people, a 25-unit lodge, 10 individual cabins for overnight guests and a campground with 50 sites for RVs and 26 sites for tents.
Supervisors Larry Saunders, Connie Brennan, Thomas Bruguiere Jr. and Allen Hale voted in favor of the permits while Chairman Tommy Harvey voted against them. Harvey said he does not disapprove of the projects, explaining he voted “no” because he’s concerned about the principle of more development into the Rockfish Valley in the future.
