Offit Kurman attorney John Raftery received the big prize at Casino Royale when he bid on and won the silent auction grand piece – a hug and picture with 11-year-old camp ambassador Tatum. Casino Royale, a night of gaming for fun, live music and great food, is an annual fundraiser for Special Love, a non-profit organization founded by Tom and Sheila Baker to fund Camp Fantastic. Giving children with cancer traditional camp experiences like canoeing, hiking, swimming, and campfires, is the reason behind the camp. It’s where a child with cancer gets to just be a child. It’s where that child gets to play, explore and establish long lasting friendships with other kids with cancer. Over the years Camp Fantastic has grown to include family members through Fantastic Friends Weekend and an extraordinary siblings only camp.
In addition to funding the camps, Special Love provides college scholarships to former campers as well as emergency funds to camp families. “The Offit Kurman Landlord Representation Team aspires to help Special Love in its mission supporting children with cancer,” says Managing Principal attorney John Raftery. In addition to working with Special Love, Offit Kurman supports a number of charities and charitable causes. These include Chimes Foundation, Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center and Higher Achievement. The Baltimore Business Journal recognized Offit Kurman among the top 25 corporate philanthropists in the Baltimore area in 2016.
