Aldi, a discount German grocery chain, has confirmed plans to open a new store beside the former Kmart building on North Franklin Street.
The company previously said it was pursuing a store in that area, but Aldi division vice president Chris Daniels said the project is now officially moving forward in a statement emailed to The Roanoke Times on Thursday.
The company is still in the planning phase, but Daniels said the goal is to have the grocery store open in the first half of 2018.
