Oak Crest Cruises the High Seas for September Gala

9/27/17

There truly was something for everyone as residents, employees and special guests of Oak Crest were eager to get to the Erickson Living retirement community’s Annual Gala on September 16 to support the Benevolent Care Fund.

More than 335 people attended the event, greeted by the sounding of the cruise ship horn to alert everyone that the “Love Boat” had left port, representing the event’s theme from the classic television show.

The gala featured live music by Mixed Company, filling the dance floor with sure-footed passengers.  Other fun locales included karaoke in Club Kauai and casino gaming in the Monte Carlo Room.  Guests were treated to a special menu of lamb chops with macadamia crust, seared tuna with mango slaw, stuffed lobster tail with crab, carved beef tenderloin, crab cakes and more, all prepared by the culinary professionals of Oak Crest.

During the gala, Stacey Schiano, Philanthropy Manager, announced that $100,000 had been raised from contributions by residents, employees and vendors.  Major sponsors included Commercial Interior Construction (CIC), Inner Harbor Decorating, Omni Eye Specialists, Tim’s Automotive and The Whiting & Turner Contracting Company.

The hard work and creativity of many unsung heroes made the 2017 Gala a success.  Some of those included Beverly Venedam, Philanthropy Coordinator, Robbie Furman, Erickson Advantage Regional Sales Manager, who, with a team of friends from across the country, created the colorful balloon artistry celebrating the “Love Boat” theme, and employees in the General Services Department who designed and displayed many decorations.  A Gala Committee consisting of residents from Oak Crest provided invaluable feedback and fundraising expertise.

The Benevolent Care Fund provides the confidential assistance that allows residents who have experienced unforeseen financial burdens to remain at Oak Crest, assuring that they will receive the care they deserve.
