Arlington Leaders Will Attempt To Retain Tourism-Tax Authority In 2018

Members of the Arlington delegation to the General Assembly appear ready to roll the dice when it comes to the county’s ability to tax hotel stays and use the revenue for tourism promotion.

The always-contentious measure comes up for review in Richmond early in 2018, two years after the General Assembly grudgingly returned, for a 24-month period, Arlington’s ability to impose the tax.

For the upcoming session, which opens in January and will run for 60 days, “we’re putting in a bill to lift that sunset [provision],” said Del. Patrick Hope (D-47th), who will lead the effort in conjunction with state Sen. Janet Howell (D-32nd).
