A new $200,000 grant fund has been created to help local governments and K-12 public school systems move to solar energy through power purchase agreements that make it easier to finance, own and operate the panels.

The partnership between the Community Foundation Serving Richmond and Central Virginia and Secure Futures, a Staunton-based commercial-scale solar business, aims to install about 15,000 solar panels in the Richmond region, an investment of about $12 million.

The public entities pay no capital or maintenance costs and will save money through reduced electricity costs. Interested applicants must apply by Nov. 7 through the Community Foundation’s website: tcfrichmond.org.
