How To Regulate Airbnb-Type Rentals? Norfolk Wants To Hear From Residents And Businesses

Norfolk officials want to know what residents and businesses think about regulating rooms rented out through Airbnb and similar websites.

To keep tabs on the rentals, the city has talked about requiring hosts to register their spaces or face a $500 fine.

Norfolk also is considering other regulations, such as limiting the number of guests to six per home and two per bedroom, and restricting stays to no more than 21 nights in a home per year. Violating those proposed laws could result in a three-month suspension from the register.

For more than a year, Norfolk – as well as other Virginia cities – has been taking a close look at how to oversee and control short-term home rentals .
