Work can now begin on The Meadows site, approximately two years after the controversial project was announced.
Abingdon Town Manager Greg Kelly delivered the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality permit and the Town of Abingdon ground disturbance permit to Marathon Realty Corp. on Thursday.
“Work can begin immediately,” Kelly said.
The Meadows is a 73-acre former plantation that is to be the site of a sports and retail complex. The Town of Abingdon plans to construct a multiuse sports complex, and Food City will build an anchor store.
