Serve Our Willing Warriors (SOWW) accepted a $300,000 donation from PenFed Foundation to build another home at the Warrior Retreat at Bull Run’s 37-acre Haymarket location. The check was presented Dec. 4 during a groundbreaking ceremony at the site.
“Because of you, lives have been changed, marriages have been reconciled – right here in this house. Families are getting together. Healing happened, right here, because of you…It’s a miracle because we all came together for a cause and I can’t thank you enough,” said Shirley Dominick, co-founder with husband, John Dominick, of SOWW.
SOWW provides six-day respite stays to military service members or veterans and their families. To date, they have served over 200 Warriors and nearly 600 family members. The building of a new home will double their capacity allowing two families to stay at the property at the same time.
