GO Virginia set a high bar for its first financial grants for regional economic development initiatives, but the Richmond region will have to try again early next year to win approval of a pair of projects that didn't make the first cut.
The Virginia Growth and Opportunity Board, better known as GO Virginia, approved five projects on Tuesday - three in Northern Virginia and two in Hampton Roads. The projects will receive more than $2.2 million in state funds aimed at fostering collaboration among local governments, higher education and business on ideas to set the stage for economic growth.
However, the state board suggested that the region reaching from the Richmond metropolitan area to the North Carolina border refine the two projects it proposed before reapplying for approval in February.
