SECU President & CEO Rod Staatz presented a check for $11,760 earlier yesterday to the University of Maryland Children’s Hospital as part of the Points for Pediatrics program.
SECU, Maryland’s largest credit union, partnered with the University of Maryland Men’s Basketball Team for Points for Pediatrics during the 2016-17 season, and donated $5 for every point scored during the team’s regular season home games.
While Staatz was presenting the check, members of the Baltimore Blast, SECU’s 2017 – 2018 partners in the new Goals for Kids program, toured the hospital and met with many of the young patients. Through Goals for Kids, SECU will donate $100 to the University of Maryland’s Children’s Hospital for every goal scored by the Blast during their regular season home games. The Blast have already scored 38 goals benefiting Goals for Kids, meaning SECU will pledge at least $3,800 to the hospital. The Blast have six more home games this season.
Baltimore Blast players William Vanzela, Tony Donatelli, and Pat Healey along with Blast General Manager Kevin Healey handed out Blast giveaways to the kids during their visit.
“It is an honor for SECU to be associated with programs like Points for Pediatrics and now Goals for Kids,” Staatz told a crowd of doctors, nurses, patients, and their families. “Given the University of Maryland Children’s Hospital’s reputation for providing superior care to children with chronic and critical illnesses, we are thrilled to be able to do this to support the hospital’s ongoing work.”
Staatz continued, “Because SECU has a long history of giving back to the communities we serve, we are very excited to be associated with both the University of Maryland Children’s Hospital and the Baltimore Blast. All three organizations embody the same values, namely a commitment to excellence and a dedication to serving Marylanders.”
SECU’s long tradition of community outreach includes food and school supply donations to various local organizations and employee volunteer initiatives. SECU also provides free financial education presentations in the community and financial assistance through programs like Kids Helping Kids, The Love Blanket, A Wider Circle, and The United Way of Central Maryland.
