It took a year of hard work and various faces to secure Virginia Tech’s largest cash donation in school history.
The $15.2 million donation, which will fund a state-of-the-art student-athlete performance center featuring a nutrition training table, will help Virginia Tech “move up from a challenger brand to a champion brand,” Tech athletic director Whit Babcock said Monday at a news conference.
Tech has received pledges in the $15 million neighborhood in the past.
One of the most recent examples is a $15 million scholarship endowment gift from the A. James and Alice B. Clark Foundation, which will pay out money to Tech to provide 10 full scholarships in perpetuity to in-state students studying engineering- or construction-related fields.
