The State Corporation Commission has ordered Dominion Energy to install a new transmission line under, instead of over, the Rappahannock River near the Robert O. Norris Jr. Bridge between Grey’s Point and White Stone.

The commission also said a line with the same capacity as the existing one, 115 kilovolts, is sufficient to meet energy needs for the Northern Neck area. Dominion had offered a slightly more expensive 230-kilovolt option for the SCC’s consideration.

Dominion says it does not intend to appeal the decision.

“The SCC has confirmed this rebuild project is needed and will improve electric reliability for the 19,000 homes and businesses in the Northern Neck area that depend on us. We look forward to completing this much-needed project,” Dominion spokesman David Botkins said in a statement. That number includes electric cooperatives that are served by Dominion.
