Classical guitarists Bert Lams and Fabio Mittino will perform at the Liriodendron Mansion on Friday, January 5, 2018

Bert Lams of the California Guitar Trio and Italian guitarist Fabio Mittino will be playing the music of the extraordinary collaboration between the Greek-Armenian spiritual teacher, G. I. Gurdjieff, and Russian composer, Thomas de Hartmann. Gurdjieff traveled the Middle East and Central Asia in the early 1900’s and developed the teachings which now bear his name. He had the capability to remember the melodies he'd heard during his travels and when he met Russian composer Thomas de Hartmann he sang and played some of this music to him, and together they wrote over 300 pieces for the piano.

Bert Lams and Fabio Mittino have transcribed a selection of Gurdjieff/De Hartmann's music and arranged it for guitar. They will perform a program of mostly new arrangements, along with selections of songs from their recent album “Long Ago.”

“The music on ‘Long Ago’ covers a vast territory of Armenian songs, Hindu melodies, Kurdish melodies, Orthodox Hymns, Tibetan Dances, never played on the guitar before,” stated Fabio Mittino. “Bert and I immensely enjoyed discovering these hidden gems and saw it as a wonderful opportunity to create a unique collaboration by creating a new repertoire for guitar,” Mittino further commented. Bert Lams and Fabio Mittino met at a music convention in London 20 years ago. They have performed concerts in Italy and the US.

An exclusive Meet & Greet will take place from 6-7pm where a limited number of guests will have the opportunity to meet Bert Lams and Fabio Mittino prior to the concert. Light appetizers and a selection of beers from Independent Brewing Co. of Bel Air will be included in this event. Tickets are $25 and include the concert.

Doors will open at 6:30 for concert admission. Tickets are $15 and available by calling the Liriodendron Mansion at 410 879 4424 or at the door if still available. Concert starts at 7:30pm. CDs will be available to purchase.
