Drivers will see an unofficial toll rate on the city's Interstate 64 Express Lanes Wednesday.
The Virginia Department of Transportation said Tuesday they'll be performing a test toll rate between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. Wednesday, and then again that same day from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Drivers will not be tolled when they use the system during testing Wednesday.
The testing, VDOT officials said, is to ensure that the electronic tolling equipment for I-64 is fully functional once tolling begins.
The testing is also part of VDOT's initiative to convert 8.4 miles of high-occupancy vehicle lanes between the I-264 and I-64 interchange along with I-564. When the lanes launch next week, officials said tolls will be in effect from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. westbound and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. eastbound Monday through Friday.
