Home Sales Climbed 9.2 Percent In Central Virginia Last Year

Home prices and sales in the 16 localities of central Virginia continued to rise in 2017 for the seventh consecutive year, according to a report released Monday by the Central Virginia Regional Multiple Listing Service.

In 2017, there were 19,629 home sales in the region, an increase of 9.2 percent from 2016. The report covers 16 localities in central Virginia — made up of the city of Richmond, the Tri-Cities and 12 surrounding counties.

In the core Richmond metro area — consisting of Richmond and Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico counties — sales were up 8.6 percent to 16,242 in 2017.

Both the average and median sales prices rose in 2017 from the prior year.
