BVU Cable Rates May Go Up

Cable TV customers of the BVU Authority will likely pay more following a vote Thursday by the provider’s board of directors.

The authority board unanimously approved on first reading a proposed 10 percent rate increase that, if finalized, would take effect March 1. A second approval is needed next month followed by a similar vote by City Council.

Authority President and CEO Don Bowman said the rate increase is designed to offset an increase in programming costs.

“Our last rate increase was in October 2015,” Bowman said. “The fees we pay for channels 5, 9, 10 and 11 were recently increased, and it is necessary to offset the local broadcasting fee.”
