Recent Ballad Health social media posts state “the next chapter is coming soon.”
For the much anticipated merger of Mountain States Health Alliance and Wellmont Health System, soon means today. Jan. 31 is the deadline for the two regional health providers to become Ballad Health under provisions of a Certificate of Public Advantage approved by the Tennessee Department of Health and a similar cooperative agreement approved by the Virginia Department of Health.
Once combined, Ballad will operate as a single health care system with about 15,000 employees, more than 20 hospitals and many other clinics, diagnostic and treatment facilities across Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.
Wellmont spokesman Jim Wozniak said the health systems plan to release more information today.
