Chesterfield Megasite Proposal Triggers EDA Scrutiny From State Senator

Plans by Chesterfield County’s Economic Development Authority to create an industrial megasite in the county has prompted calls by a state senator to eliminate the authorities altogether.

Sen. Amanda Chase, R-Chesterfield, proposed a bill that would require local government approval of all EDA expenditures. She described her proposal as a consensus bill since she originally wanted legislation that eliminated EDAs.

“Bureaucrats who are not elected by the people should not be allowed to dole out taxpayer money,” she said. After the meeting, she added: “I’m tired of elected officials abdicating their responsibility so bureaucrats can do their dirty work.”
