The Roanoke Times eliminated seven jobs Tuesday as part of companywide workforce reductions at BH Media Group, spurred by a decline in advertising revenue from national retailers, according to the company.
BH Media papers across the country were affected, with 148 positions eliminated and another 101 vacant positions cut.
Company Chairman and CEO Terry Kroeger cited advertising cutbacks by regional and national clients whose businesses were buffeted by online shopping’s sharp gains. He called it the “harsh reality” of rapid change in the industry and said the company is adjusting.
