A marketing “blitz” to attract tourists to Petersburg and a campaign to bring visitors to black-owned restaurants in the Richmond area were among the recipients of more than 50 state grants aimed at bolstering tourism in Virginia.

State officials announced Tuesday that about $840,000 in matching grants were awarded to 56 local tourism initiatives as part of the Virginia Tourism Corp.’s Marketing Leverage Program.
