Expanding Peninsula Businesses Rely On Affordable Child Care, Survey Says

The availability of affordable child care is the top local factor in whether Peninsula small businesses can expand, according to a recent survey commissioned by the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce.

Affordable child care for workers was the top common reason why Peninsula businesses were expanding in a Christopher Newport University-conducted landline and cellphone survey of 277 firms.

“If they can get their employees taken care of, they can expand,” Thomas Hall, CNU finance and economics associate professor, told attendees of the survey presentation at the chamber offices in Hampton on Friday.
