For the first time in nearly a decade, the town of Bedford has an economic development coordinator.
The town hired Mary Zirkle in November with the task of helping current businesses in the town grow and succeed as well as helping bring in new businesses.
Zirkle, a native of Roanoke and resident of Stewartsville, worked as Bedford County’s chief planner from 2006 to 2014 when she left to serve as town manager of Buchanan. She left that job Jan. 1 and began her position in the town of Bedford on Jan. 3.
