Altavista Approves Creation Of Staunton River Regional Industrial Facility Authority

A 600-acre regional industrial facility that aims to bring economic growth to Central Virginia is one step closer to reality after Altavista Town Council members unanimously approved Tuesday an ordinance for creation of the Staunton River Regional Industrial Facility Authority.

The town held a public hearing Tuesday night for comments on the proposed ordinance, which was shared on the town’s website last Friday. No one spoke on the project, which has been in development since last year.

The Staunton River RIFA brings together four localities — Altavista, Hurt, Pittsylvania County and Danville — with the goal of reviving an old mill site straddling northern Pittsylvania County and Altavista for economic development in the area, Town Manager Waverly Coggsdale said.
