Virginia Tech Will Start Honors College Program Headed By Former Provost With Help Of $20 Million Donation

One of the largest donations in Virginia Tech's history will pave the way for an honors college program for students of different disciplines to work together on big projects. The program will be led by the school’s former provost.

The $20 million gift from Dave Calhoun, former CEO of Nielsen and managing director of Blackstone, a private equity firm in New York City, will kickstart an initiative that will feature transdisciplinary projects and will continue looking at new ways to deliver higher education.

“It’s very meaningful for me,” said Calhoun, who graduated from Tech’s Pamplin College of Business in 1979. “I would like it [Virginia Tech] to lead in the world of higher academics as they do in the world of NCAA football.”
