DowDuPont To Invest $50 Million In Kevlar Production, Including At Spruance Plant In Chesterfield

DowDuPont Inc. said Monday that it is investing $50 million in its global operations that make Kevlar, a high-strength material manufactured locally at the company’s Spruance plant on Jefferson Davis Highway in Chesterfield County.

The investment is the result of “strong demand” in global markets for the product, said John Richard, the company’s Kevlar and Nomex global business leader.

The investment will go toward upgrading and modernizing equipment to improve production, quality and automation, the company said. It will not mean additional hiring at the local plant, though Richard said the Spruance plant, which employs about 1,800 people, has hired about 150 people over the last year.
