Botetourt Supervisors Oppose Rate Increase Sought By Aqua Virginia

The Botetourt County Board of Supervisors is fighting a proposed rate increase from Aqua Virginia, which could affect more than 2,300 customers in the county.

Aqua Virginia filed a request with the State Corporation Commission in August to increase rates across the state, some as high as 29 percent. The water system serves 70,000 customers in the state and has more than 2,300 connections in Botetourt County.

The for-profit company has a track record of requesting rate increases about every two years, Supervisor Billy Martin said. He has led a fight against the company and its increases nearly every time and most recently in 2015.
