Kicking of National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, 600 friends and supporters of Penn-Mar Human Services gathered for the nonprofit’s 26th Annual Penn-Mar Black Tie Gala on Saturday, March 3, at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Hunt Valley, Md., raising a record of more than $700,000 to help sustain the nonprofit’s mission of “transforming life into living” for hundreds of men and women with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) Penn-Mar supports in Maryland and Pennsylvania. Honored with this year’s Distinguished Humanitarian Award were Ann and Michael Hankin, of Butler, Md.

Penn-Mar Human Services was honored to present its 2018 Distinguished Humanitarian Award to patrons Ann and Michael Hankin. Graduating together from the University of Virginia School of Law, Ann and Michael have, over the years, been involved with many educational, environmental and human service organizations and causes in Maryland and beyond, including The Bryn Mawr School, Baltimore School for the Arts, Paul’s Place, St. John’s Episcopal Church, Western Run Parish, the Washington National Cathedral, Johns Hopkins Medicine, Johns Hopkins University, Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab, the Baltimore Community Foundation, Land Preservation Trust, Center for Large Landscape Conservation, and the Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore and the Maryland Zoo. For more than a decade, Ann worked as an attorney at Piper & Marbury and U.S.F. & G., and Michael is president and CEO of Brown Advisory.
